23 March 2026
Join us for our 22nd webinar in the 1000FARMS series. In this session, we’ll hear from Dr Jidda Umar, Chief Research Officer and Head of Agricultural Economics and Extension at the Lake Chad Research Institute (LCRI), Nigeria. Dr Umar will present findings from a multi-location study examining what drives farmer participation in decentralized varietal evaluation under the 1000FARMS initiative in northeast Nigeria.
Date: Thursday 26 March 2026
Time: 15:00–15:30 (CET)
Summary
Drawing on data from Borno and Gombe States, Dr Umar will share how econometric analysis reveals the institutional and knowledge-based factors that shape engagement in farmer-led experimentation with millet, with important implications for scaling climate-resilient technologies in dryland agriculture.
In this webinar, you will learn:
- What socioeconomic factors drive farmer participation in tricot-based millet trials in northeast Nigeria
- How human capital, farm resource endowments and institutional access influence engagement in farmer-led experimentation
- Why knowledge and institutional access matter more than demographic factors in innovation systems
- What multi-location evidence from Borno and Gombe States tells us about inclusive scaling strategies
- How data-driven, farmer-centred approaches can support climate-resilient agriculture in dryland contexts
